Hey! My name is Tony J. Robinson. I’m a father to an amazing son, a full time student, and a boyfriend to an amazing girl. I live in Southern California (a little less than an hour away from Los Angeles). I’m a normal person, just like you, who’s trying to make it and improve as a person. I just chose to share my journey with the world.
I was a sophomore in high school when I found out I was about to become a father. It was such a crazy moment for me. I was an honor student, an athlete, and I never really caused much trouble. I started asking all these questions, and there were so many decisions I had to make that I just didn’t feel prepared for, that I wasn’t prepared for.
By the time my son was born 9 months later, my life had changed quite a bit. I quit the basketball team, I got a job, and I began my journey of balancing fatherhood with with all the other things teenagers deal with.
The birth of my son has done many things for my life, but the one thing that really stands out is that it forced me to look at the world in a different way. Before I was a dad, I thought about the future and I had goals, but only to the extent that most 16 year olds can. But after he was born, I don’t know if it was by paternal instinct or what, but it lit a fire inside of me. And it was that fire that lead me to where I am today. It was that fire that motivated me to strive for more because if I realized that if I ever settled, I wouldn’t be the only one affected. I had another person depending on me.
How The Blog Started
When I was in elementary school, I met a friend of the family who was an engineeer. He drove a mercedes, wore nice clothes, and had a huge house. One day I asked him what his job was and he said, “engineer”.
From that point on, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Following that childhood dream, I entered college in the Fall of 2009 as an engineering student.
The first year went great. The second year was even better because I landed a summer internship with the number three company on the fortune 500 list. It was awesome because I got a taste of what being an engineer was really like. But there was a downside, I began to realize that I didn’t enjoy what being an engineer was really like. I felt like there was more I could, that I could have a bigger impact on the world than what the cubicle would allow.
But I toughed it out for another year and returned to that internship the next summer. That was when I knew something had to change. So I turned down the job offer they gave me and switched my major entirely. Now I’m an entrepreneurship student. But with the major change, I wasn’t sure which career I wanted to pursue.
I began to do some soul searching and I realized how much I loved talking about personal development, and I also realized how many people knew what they should be doing, but just weren’t doing it. That’s when the lightbulb went off. I wanted to create a site where people could go to get the inspiration and information they needed to “Do Really Good”. And with that, the site was born.
